With a background in hotels having worked with the Taj Group of hotels and the late Maharaja of Benares – it was on an assignment over converting a home into a guest house that Avnish got the idea of creating Master 25 years ago.
Centrally located, Master was built in the 60’s in an area adjoining the ridge, not far from the house of the President of India. It is close to the Airports, Railway Stations and the blue line on the Delhi Metro.
The Property retains the architectural beauty of the 60’s from the outside while the inside reflects the taste of its current owners Avnish and Ushi.
The theme of the house is to welcome guests like one would welcome a spiritual Master in an atmosphere of warmth and friendliness. The decor represents the names of the three rooms and blends with the beautiful leafy terrace and tastefully appointed sit outs.
From the time of arrival to departure -Master offers not only a place to rest but an experience that keeps bringing people back to it.
Some of its guests who met at the Master, got married and had children have come back only to experience where the story of their lives started.
While talking of stories – the common room -where people sit and eat, has witnessed so many stories that if put in a book it would be a best seller.
For now they remain in its memory bank for an opportune time to be printed. Till then, Master continues to welcome guests to be part of its untold stories and beautiful history.
The Krishna room named after one of the Gods of the Indian trinity keeps the Pitambar (golden) colour on its walls while the Art pieces trace the history of Krishna from childhood, to the time of the Gopis (dancing girls) and after. The bluish green colour of its cornice is from the Peacock(the national bird of India) whose feathers adorn the crown of Lord Krishna. The room’s infectious energy spills onto the Balcony where guests can get a glimpse of the street life from behind a veil of plants and an old Guvava tree.
The colour of Ganesh room on the terrace draws inspiration from a painting of Ganesh on its western wall. The violet colour reflects the cosmic healing energy before it turns golden on contact with the cornice on the ceiling. A truly uplifting experience.
The terrace garden in front of the room is a peaceful heaven endorsed by the many birds that make nests and lay varied coloured eggs amongst its plants.
Several guests have been treated to the beautiful sight of little birds chirping in their nests before taking their first flight.
The third room the The Lucky room gets its name from the guests that got lucky by simply staying in it. Do we need to say more.
However, the best part of the house is the gentle fragrance that pervades it – often working as a mood enhancer. This topped by the fresh flowers that occasionally adorn the house offer an unforgettable experience of an Indian Home with the comfort of a Hotel.
Adding to the charm of staying at the Master is the opportunity to interact with its owners Avnish & Ushi. One a news presenter, an avid traveller and a great story teller and the other a Reiki Healer and Master and Doctor of Alternative sciences. Between them they offer an opportunity to relax your body, mind and soul.
The breakfast at the property, is a combination of Indian and Continental served with delicious fruits that offer a great start to the morning.
With an ever smiling staff of several years, Master finds a place in the itinerary of all those travellers looking for a special place to stay in Delhi.
